A B O U T M E
Portuguese tenor Luis Gomes studied at the National Opera Studio and Guildhall School of Music & Drama (under Rudolph Piernay) and is currently a member of the Jette Parker Young Artist Programe at the Royal Opera House.
Luis recently won the Bruce Miller/Gulliver Prize. He was a Samling Scholar and also participated in the Georg Solti Accademia di Belcanto in 2012, attending master classes with Richard Bonynge, Dennis O'Neill and Angela Gheorghiu.
Performance highlights include Rossini's Petite Messe Solennelle in Rome with Antonio Pappano, a Wigmore Hall Samling concert featuring Sir Thomas Allen and Malcom Martineau, and concerts with Ryan Wigglesworth, Stephen Barlow and Michel Corboz.
In August 2009 he sang to more than 30 000 people at the Festival de Música do Avante.
Operatic experience includes Tottono (I gioielli della Madonna) at Opera Holland Park, Peppe (Rita), Fenton (The Merry Wives of Windsor), and George (Our Town) at the Silk theatre (GSMD), Snout (A Midsummer Night’s Dream) at the Barbican theatre and Jenik (The Bartered Bride) for the British Youth Opera, for which he was awarded the Basil A Turner Prize.
Roles with the Royal Opera House have included Pong (Turandot), 4th Esquire (Parsifal), Gastone (La Traviata), Lamplighter (Manon Lescaut) and Chevalier de la Force (Dialogues des Carmelites).
